Rain Stops Play 28/29.6.09

The morning is fine but having breakfast with a room full of Jehovas Witnesses was kinda scary. I was obviously viewed as the spawn of the devil in riding gear. All very strange. With a waterlogged camera there's no pics today either.

We set off toward Montreal in clear weather. It didnt take long to get caught in traffic and we travelled 200 yds in around 20 minutes only to find 50 feet of roadworks and 3 blokes sitting on their backside doing nothing. Just like back at home!

The next obstacle is the American bridge over the river is shut so we spend 10 minutes riding around the ring road until we find the tunnel and finally get out of the city.

After a brief stop (it's 81f) we get going again and hit the rain. 30 minutes later its dropped to 60f and time for a bit of extra clothing. The rest of the journey was really nothing but rain to Riviere Du Loop where we headed east along 186 toward Edmundston. It finally starts to warm up and as we tank up about 10 miles out of town its back to 76f. The weather here is crazy....

Finally get in for 2130 and its a quick dash to the local Pizza shack for a bite to eat and then back for a few tinnies before bed.

Following morning is much the same. Heavy rain along with an annoying crosswind. Head out to the highway and head east again this time toward Moncton. Unfortunately for Rick he has to make Halifax, another added 3 hours for him. The temperature stays a little higher despite the incessant downpour and with a few stops for coffee we get through the worst of it.

By 1500 I'm off the highway into a hotel for a well earned shower. I'm picked up later by Karen and Rick who take me back to their place where I sit with them and their good buddies Janice and Guy and tuck into home made seafood chowder, or as I described it "soup with bits in" and a devine home made pud.

We reckon in two days we rode 1000km in the rain. Was it all worth it? With new friends like these you bet!

More soon...
